Penrith lock-ups

Penrith lock-ups, originally uploaded by ukalipt.

this freaked me out. i was returning to the car after a "financial meeting" in penrith when i saw these bike lockers. i never knew they existed anywhere let alone in penrith. i would love to see them in the blue mnts then i could ride any of my bikes to the station without the worry of bad men helping themselves to my property.

holy crap. there are some in springwood. i am going on a search to find them. i could ride scottie to the station every day.

the things dreams are made of

miss raleigh, 3ttt, the peugeot decision

well she is now almost done
i have some new pads to try out for her, and if they are ok i will buy a second set and she will be on then listed on the bay asap.
the autosol did the job. so did the rust remover. needed a fair bit of elbow grease but she has come up really nicely.
i will do a shoot with her in he full glory this weekend and then she will leave the nest.
shame. she is quiet an amazing bike and it will be sad to see her depart.

3TTT stem
will be shipping shortly. its a 22mm so it will fit the pug. happy about that. also shipping is the new headset. peugeots are now here to stay

workshops and the mercier

i need to attend one i am thinking. i would love to learn about wheel building and other bits and bobs. i am going to give CBD another chance.
Bike Maintenance Workshops that charge a fee
City Bike Depot (CBD) runs monthly "Mechanic Courses". The first Saturday of each month is for Basic lessons ($30 per person), the second Saturday each month is a more in depth lesson ($60 per person), and they also offer one-on-one personalised courses for a maximum of 2 people per session ($120 per person).

parktools have what looks to be a good resource. just need the time to go through it all

mercier
unfortunately for me i was really interested in this little baby, but due to geographical restrictions i was unable to attempt the purchase, fortunately for david [winona] i passed it on to him and he decided to pick it up. for only $112- it is almost as good as that old speedwell from orange that got away for $145. oh well...

peugeot update.
still confused. i am really interested in setting up a grandpa touring bike. the peugeot is the candidate but i am still confused.

that black bike
i am going to contact - or attemp to - the owner of the tree lined black bike. i will see how things go...

raleigh in da pink, hoping to go black

a risk has been taken, and the results will soon be known. I did the mitchell street auctions this morning leaving really early to ride down and check out the bikes. there were some good bargains, the aluminum frame i wanted i didn't get., nor the carbon but he girls/ ladies raleigh was going to be the best money spinner i was hoping. i will need to do some clean up work for it to be the show stopper it can be, and a good shoot will help the selling of it. for $50 i guess i should be able to recoup the costs... lets hope. some are going for around $300 now-a-days. its all in the ebay advertisement

nice paint, nice single speed

one of the guys on the ozpushies group asked a question about whether or not this frame was a jim bundy, i am thinking not, but what would i know. it is very loose at the back, and the oil port in the BB does show the frames age. it looks as though it was a touring or ride bike that has had the dropouts replaced, very similar two what i was wanting to do to the tarini. track or not the re-paint is just spectacular. i love the colour and the white lug highlights. i have asked the guy who did the paint job and @ what cost was it.

after the issues with the flat tire on hugo and tarini at the skate park i have considered single speed MTB's as alternative to the station. Justin Fox found this under his house which i would so love to get hold of and turn into a street runner to the station

angry ape
through underground cycles i have found a guy who is doing custom frames for MTB 29ers and such, bloody nice work as well. they look like they are of ultra high quality [i am sure they are] and look great.
still in love with this though.

foam fest, the one that got away Peugeot NOS

this is a cool auction.

and the one that got away. so fucked off with ebay idiots. i would have loved to have brought this frame
the price is right. NOS>>>> bloody shit poo bum wee

surly @ burning broadway

i rarely see a "true" fixie in sidny. they just aren't around or they all hide from me. i do see quiet a few single-speeds motoring around. today was a day of a true fixed gear. parked out the front of burning broadway. equipped with the essential spoke cards and all. i have to get me some of them.

today i also woke up and remembered... i don't have a working bike at the moment. sadly

hugo blow out

hugo decided he would blow the back tire on the way home tonight from the station. unfortunately i didn't have all the gear to do a tire change on the fly so i had to get a lift from karen and the boys. not good. it has made me re-think the whole station ride.
maybe i do need a mountain bike? just for durability
i am going to look more at 2nd hand ones for pricing. ahhh. just what i need. another bike idea. FFS

the SHC and the malvern were at the MA so i am trying to get them this monday, along with the REPCO. man if i get the repco we will be talking major cash upgrades. i bet it is gone though

ebay or die! update

i am blown away. what i thought would be a lucky to get 20$ in total for the crap laying around from the old camcorder... not to be the case. the two batteries went for 66$ dollars, one of the wide lenses for 61$ and the other for 10$.
it has boosted my spending money quiet considerably for the fixie projects.

i was unable to make it to the auction this morning for the single star malvern.
i repacked and set the BB spindle again on hugo with new bearings. it still feels a little loose. i will check it again tonight.

just got back from the auctions. i will be going down there regularly on monday mornings. there is a gold mine of bikes in there, but they do seem to turn around quiet regularly.

time for some tunes

its not my usual thing to post music here but currently i just cant stop listening to the national. i missed their recent tour. no happy jan

peugeot - the disease

they still have me hooked the french bikes. but this is very funny 60 yrs old. that would make the bike from 1948! how far advanced were the french with their styling!

ebay or die!

i am pushing ahead with more ebay sales. i still need to work out some kind of commuter that will take me to the station successfully. hugo has back wheel issues along with the front brake. i need to either

a. source a new back rim.
b. source a long reach front brake
or
c. purchase a track wheel set
d. buy another bike!

lol. i have my eyes on an 2 x old malvern star. if the ebay auctions go well i could end up with one. the whole french treading etc on hugo is a problem that i am finding increasingly more frustrating. with less than no budget it is silly for me to try and source items that are so unique they only become available at random times, and when they do, i will have to bid/pay higher premiums to ensure i will be able to get them.

one of the malverns is hand pin striped. the other is on ebay here. fat chance i will get it with such a nice groupset on it. i reckon it will go for over 300$

riding apparel

always had issues with it. tights aren't really my style - but i did/have worn then. as for jersey's - there's another story all together. why do they have to look like you need 4 x AA's inserted in them. seriously.
there is a lot of typography involved, i guess thats the reason i have issues. whats funny though is pretty much all the stuff i like is olde world cycling jerseys

visability NOT - when in a proper riding position it would be pretty rare that any driver/person would really see the jersey that well, so visibility is out of the equation to me
sponsor NOT - if your not sponsored why would you give them free advertising? bizarre really

so i have been on a little bit of a push to find some nice cycling gear that doesn't look like a kids toy packaging.
results:
NZ : SO1O - localish bro [don't tell tarini] would someone please redo the shoot though with a guy that doesn't look like he's auditioning for madame tussauds.
look out tiger - the cyclist is coming!!! [having said that at least he does look as though he rides a bike regularly]

USA : twin six
- pretty impressive stuff. not 100% about the type down the size of all the jerseys but never the less pretty nice.

twin six have also been involved in creating a wool trainer designed by house industries. it's happy days when two worlds colide
